CNC Mill Setup Operator
Location: Mendota Heights, MN

What You’ll Be Doing:
As a CNC Mill Setup Operator, you’ll be responsible for setting up and operating CNC vertical milling machines to produce precision die components, fixtures, gages, and stamped parts. From machine setup and programming review to precision inspection and troubleshooting, your skills will keep production accurate, efficient, and on schedule.
A Day in the Life:
Set up CNC vertical, installing tools, fixtures, and workpieces per drawings
Review setup sheets and consult with programmers to understand tool requirements and machining strategies
Align workpieces using dial indicators or machine probes to ensure accuracy across all axes
Load and secure material with vises, clamps, or lifting equipment depending on part size
Adjust offsets, cutting depths, and feeds to achieve precision features within tight tolerances (.0002”)
Read blueprints and die design prints to confirm specifications and tolerances, coordinating with toolmakers as needed
Inspect parts using micrometers and calipers to ensure dimensional accuracy
Perform in-process and final quality checks on machined parts
Troubleshoot tool wear, misalignments, or machine issues to minimize downtime
Clean, lubricate, and maintain machines to keep them running at peak performance
Look for process improvements, stay current on machining techniques, and contribute to efficiency gains
Maintain accurate documentation of setups, inspections, and maintenance activities
Follow all safety protocols and compliance standards
You’re a Great Fit If You:
Have strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on machining experience
Know how to set up and run CNC milling machines and understand G-code/CAM software basics
Can read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Are skilled with precision measurement tools to verify tolerances
Are comfortable with geometry, trigonometry, and math applied to machining
Pay close attention to detail and take pride in producing accurate, high-quality work
Communicate effectively and collaborate well with team members
Stay adaptable, open to learning, and eager to improve processes
Preferred Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or training preferred
2–5 years of CNC milling experience in a manufacturing environment
Familiarity with designing, setting up, and qualifying fixtures for production machining
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and move frequently throughout shifts
Regularly lift and move up to 25 lbs; occasionally up to 50 lbs
Strong vision, dexterity, and focus for detailed precision work
Stamina to perform repetitive machining tasks and maintain concentration over long runs
