The Software Designer – Packaging will play a key role in the development and management of software solutions for high-performance automatic machines, with a strong focus on the integration of electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
Key Responsibilities
Define electrical hardware specifications for new machines or machine groups
Develop software to implement control logic, motion control, and HMI for packaging systems and machine groups
Collaborate closely with electrical and mechanical design teams to ensure seamless system integration
Conduct functional testing both in-house and at customer sites, supporting Operations during commissioning and After-Sales during post-installation
Manage technical documentation related to developed software
Oversee project activities, monitor progress, and report to the Project Manager or direct Supervisor
Participate actively in all project phases—from technical analysis of customer requirements to hardware definition, software development, internal testing, and customer support during installation.
Ensure compliance of control and automation systems with safety regulations, quality standards, and operational requirements
Collaborate with internal software developers and supervise external hardware/software partners during project execution
Contribute throughout the product lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on quality, innovation, and cross-functional collaboration
To succeed in this role, you should have:
Master’s degree in Automation Engineering, Industrial Informatics, or equivalent.
4–5 years of experience in software development for automatic machines
Excellent command of Siemens TIA Portal (CPU S7-1500T, HMI WinCC Unified)
Familiarity with Rockwell / Allen-Bradley platforms (RSLogix5000 / Studio 5000)
Strong skills in motion control systems (e.g., cam creation, trajectory calculation, multi-axis synchronization)
Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams (EPLAN preferred)
Fluency in both English and Italian (written and spoken)
Willingness to travel up to 25%

Knowledge of machine safety regulations (CE / UL)
Experience with recipe management systems
Proficiency in industrial networks (Profinet, Ethernet/IP)
Familiarity with software versioning tools
Experience with simulation and testing tools (PLCsim, Simit, MCD, FactoryTalk Emulator)
