Nature of Work
Under supervision of the Chief Building Official, conducts inspection of plumbing and mechanical installations during progress of work as well as final inspections upon completion. The position includes the review of plans and applications for permits, development, and maintenance, as well as required research and record-keeping.
HOURS
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Job Duties
Performs plumbing and mechanical inspections as scheduled, effectively and courteously explaining any deficiencies.
Maintains complete records of all activities associated with inspections, including correspondence, inspections, noncompliance orders, follow-up inspections.
Follows established procedure to assure uniform enforcement.
Updates inspection skills by in-house training and attending formal continuing education classes.
Writes correspondence to convey an understanding of the minimum code requirements to owners, and contractors.
Performs other duties as apparent or assigned including sign, plumbing, HVAC inspections and plan review.
Participates in efforts to ensure Richfield is an equitable, inclusive and respectful organization and supports the City's mission, vision and core values.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Thorough Knowledge of plumbing fundamentals and procedures
Ability to conduct on-site inspections of building construction projects
Ability to get State Plumbing delegation agreement within one year of employment
Excellent written and verbal skills
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the Minnesota State Plumbing and Mechanical Codes.
Knowledge of safety practices regarding the inspection of buildings.
Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Skill in the operation of a personal computer.
Skill in the operation inspection-related tools and instruments.
Ability to make sound work judgments, including the ability to provide appropriate deadlines for needed corrections.
Ability to keep and maintain orderly and accurate records.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to effectively deal with the public, tenants, property owners/managers, contractors and agents.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to maintain effective work relationships.
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Demonstrates an ability to understand and respect the diversity of customers and co-workers, effectively communicating with individuals whose first language may be one other than English.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
A combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to post high school training in plumbing and mechanical installations and inspection technology or related fields; a minimum of three years of experience as a plumbing, mechanical, or building inspector for the State of Minnesota of a local jurisdiction.
Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, Vietnamese or other non-English language(s).
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Must possess a valid Class D driver's license and safe driving habits.
Licensure by the State of MN as a Master Plumber.
