DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The literacy intervention position will be responsible for providing specialized instruction to middle school students who have been identified to receive additional support in the areas of reading and writing. As determined by identified students' needs, this individual will be assigned to work in multiple grade levels and/or multiple schools. Ongoing professional development will be an integral part of this position.
Provide instruction and support with language arts objectives to a group of 15 students per class assignment.
Participate in training sessions and professional development as required.
Maintain accurate records of student data.
Collaborate with administration and literacy coach in both written and oral formats, to share information regarding student achievement.
Under direction of the literacy coach, assists in planning and implementing instructional activities.
Provides assistance to identified students as needed; supervises whole group and small group activities; works with students on specific skill areas.
Assists in assessing and evaluating student achievement; modifies and tailors instructional activities to reach achievement goals for individual students and targeted student groups.
Administers assessment tools to assess student abilities related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
Assists with the preparation of materials and other instructional aids.
Manages the behavior of learners in an instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a Virginia License or be eligible for a Virginia License with an endorsement in English, Middle School Education 6-8, or Reading Specialist.
Ability to apply basic instructional concepts and subject matter in a classroom environment.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, faculty, and others. Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and diverse levels of educational achievement and ability.
