Job Description

Long Island company is looking for a Commercial Construction Estimator to join our team! Construction estimator is responsible for preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects, including new builds, and renovations. This role involves analyzing drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates, ensuring competitive and profitable bids for the company.

Key Responsibilities

Review project plans, blueprints, and specifications to determine the scope of work and materials required.

Prepare comprehensive cost estimates, including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs.

Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to clarify project requirements and design intent.

Identify cost-saving opportunities and value-engineering options without compromising quality or safety.

Prepare detailed bid proposals and assist with contract negotiations.

Maintain cost databases and historical pricing records for future reference.

Perform quantity take-offs.

Analyze change orders, scope revisions, and potential risks to project budgets.

Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walk-throughs as needed.

Ensure estimates comply with company standards, client requirements, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience: 3–7 years of commercial construction estimating experience preferred.

Technical Skills:

Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and building codes.

Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.

Soft Skills:

Strong analytical and mathematical abilities.

Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously.

Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Work Environment

Office-based role with periodic travel to job sites and pre-bid meetings.
