What we need: We are seeking energetic, passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role for the position of Intermittent Natural Resources Technician 1 (3 positions) within the Division of Wildlife, headquartered at Olentangy Wildlife Research Station, assigned to Franklin County.

What you will do...
* Support forest and upland gamebird research in Ohio.
* Carry out in-person audio-visual surveys for ruffed grouse, wild turkey, pheasants and other species.
* Conduct passive monitoring using autonomous recording units (ARUs) and camera traps.
* Perform habitat assessments in forest and grassland habitats.
* Process data.
* Hourly pay of $19.47/hr.
Preferred qualifications...
* Knowledge of wildlife biology through the completion of at least 2 years/4 semesters of post-high school education towards a degree in wildlife biology, wildlife management, or related field.
* Experience or training with the following: identification by sight and sound of birds common to Ohio/the Midwest, acoustic classification software (e.g.
BirdNet, Kaleidoscope), off-road navigation and travel, point count surveys, habitat measurements, and accurately recording data.
* Experience working long, early hours in sometimes unpleasant conditions (heat/humidity, biting insects, etc.). Duration...

Work hours and conditions...
* Variable hours, up to 40 hours/week.
* Work conditions may include unusual working hours (early mornings and/or late evenings). * Perform some overnight travel.
* Work outside in conditions ranging from extreme cold/rain/snow to high heat and humidity.
* Possible exposure to biting insects/wildlife and poisonous plants.
* Riding as a passenger in aircraft (fixed wing or helicopter). * Physical exertion (foot travel off-road and off-trail among hills of eastern Ohio, lifting and carrying equipment). * Vehicles are provided for travel to work locations.

This is a maximum duration, 1000-hour intermittent (unclassified) position for the Division of Wildlife.
This intermittent position will remain at step 1 of the pay range.
This intermittent position is not eligible for benefits (e.g.
vision, dental, life, health insurance, holiday pay, leave accruals [vacation, personal, sick], any other paid leave, shift differential, pay supplements, etc.). Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in reading & speaking common English vocabulary; valid driver's license; valid Commercial Driver's License required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Section 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio Revised Code.
