JOB TITLE: Part-Time Non-Commercial Collection Driver

LOCATION: Santa Barbara

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Non-Commercial Collection Driver is a part-time position that will perform manual labor in the collection of waste and recyclable material in designated park spaces on Saturday and Sunday. Work includes exiting at each stop emptying waste receptacles for parks in areas of Santa Barbara.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

Operate the company truck for the collection and removal of waste, recycling, and green waste at designated public park spaces.

Ensure we keep the area clean, free of debris, and free of any accidental waste spills.

Efficiently complete the scheduled route within the required completion times.

Communicate accidents, injuries, or property damage to the Supervisor immediately.

Develop and maintain a professional demeanor with the general public.

Perform pre- and post-operation inspection and complete the VCR (Vehicle Condition Report) book for the assigned vehicle in accordance with Company policy.

Practice defensive driving, adhering to all traffic laws.

Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes, and always acting in a safe manner.

Maintain assigned truck by keeping it clean; report mechanical or related problems utilizing the Fleet Software Program.

Report end-of-day hours utilizing the Fleet Software Program.

Maintain Driver log sheets.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

Two years of driving experience operating a truck.

Valid California Class C license with a clean driving record.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Must have the ability to understand and complete route sheets and dispatch tickets.

Operate equipment with skill, efficiency, and safety.

Must have the ability to read and interpret maps.

Perform solid waste refuse collection and disposal tasks with minimal supervision.

Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Ability to give full attention to the assigned route. Drivers will navigate driveways, alleyways, parking lots, high high-traffic roadways. Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential to successfully perform this job.

Ability to perform a physically demanding job, including loading and unloading.

Ability to withstand all types of weather conditions.

Successfully complete pre-employment physical, drug test, background check, including employment verification, references, criminal history, and motor vehicle record review.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid California driver’s license

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and write English, interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. They should also be able to speak English effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratios, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat. May encounter pest activity, including the possible presence of rodents or insects as part of the waste collection tasks. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and dirty. Appropriate safety measures and protective equipment are provided such as gloves, safety glasses, high visibility gear, hardhat, etc.
