Position Overview

The Instrument Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and execution of all field instrumentation installation, testing, and pre-commissioning activities during the offshore EPC construction phase.

The role ensures that all instrumentation and control systems including transmitters, control valves, panels, junction boxes, and cabling are installed, loop-tested, and commissioned safely and in compliance with project specifications, drawings, and international standards.

Reports to: E&I Superintendent / Construction Manager / Commissioning Manager

Interfaces with: Instrumentation Technicians, QA/QC Inspectors, Electrical Team, and Client Representatives

Key Responsibilities

1. Supervision of Field Activities

Supervise all instrumentation installation works including cable pulling, termination, tubing, junction box mounting, and panel wiring.

Ensure activities are performed in accordance with IFC drawings, method statements, and ITPs (Inspection Test Plans).

Coordinate daily work assignments for instrument fitters, technicians, and subcontractors.

Oversee the installation and calibration of transmitters, sensors, control valves, analyzers, and fire & gas devices.

Ensure proper segregation of signal, control, and power cabling systems.

2. Quality and Technical Compliance

Verify that all instrumentation works conform to project quality requirements and international standards (IEC, ISA, API, ISO).

Review calibration certificates and ensure all instruments are within specified tolerances.

Witness functional tests, loop checks, and pre-commissioning activities with the QA/QC and commissioning teams.

Support preparation and closure of punch lists during mechanical completion (MC) and pre-commissioning (PC).

Maintain and verify as-built drawings and loop folders for handover.

3. Coordination & Interface

Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, and process teams to ensure multidisciplinary work fronts are aligned.

Interface with the commissioning team to plan for energization and loop testing.

Communicate effectively with engineering and construction management to resolve field queries and design deviations.

Liaise with client representatives for inspections and work progress approvals.

4. HSE & Compliance

Enforce Permit to Work (PTW), lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), and isolation procedures in all work areas.

Conduct daily toolbox talks and ensure compliance with offshore safety rules.

Verify proper use of PPE, lifting gear, and certified tools for hazardous area operations.

Participate in HSE audits, hazard identification, and incident investigations as required.

5. Reporting & Documentation

Maintain daily reports on manpower, progress, material consumption, and site conditions.

Prepare work completion checklists, test reports, and red-line mark-ups.

Track instrument installation and testing progress in coordination with the project control team.

Support preparation of turnover dossiers for client handover.

Qualifications & Experience

Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Control Systems Engineering.

Minimum 12 years EPC oil & gas project experience, with at least 4 years in offshore environments (platforms, topsides, or subsea).

Proven background in instrument installation, calibration, and loop testing.

Familiar with DCS/ESD/F&G systems integration.

Understanding of hazardous area classifications (Ex/ATEX) and offshore safety practices.

Good communication and leadership skills in a multicultural workforce.

Preferred Certifications

BOSIET / HUET / H2S (mandatory for offshore assignments).

ISO 9001:2015 / ISO 45001:2018 awareness training.

CompEx / ATEX certification (preferred).

Vendor-specific training (e.g., Yokogawa, Emerson, Honeywell, ABB, Siemens) for instrumentation and control systems.

Key Competencies
