Job Summary:
The Network Engineer II is responsible for designing and supporting network backhaul for transport and IP networks, focusing on security and performance. This role involves collaboration across departments to assess network needs, reviewing peer designs, working with vendors on technical specifications, and creating deployment documentation. The engineer will also handle advanced troubleshooting, serve as a key contact for suppliers, and research new technologies with implementation planning.
This position requires you to be on-premises (Green Bay, WI), this is not a remote position.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Design and implement additions to IP and Optical networks.
Install, configure, and maintain network management systems and software.
Provide after-hours on-call support for network issues.
Use change-management protocols to minimize customer impact.
Monitor network performance, reliability, and availability.
Review and validate network designs from teammates.
Research and implement new technologies, creating templates for deployment.
Manage network hardware and upgrades.
Develop project documentation including SOWs and MOPs.
Lead projects as Engineer in Charge, managing timelines and budgets.
Collaborate with technicians to ensure timely documentation and project delivery.
Maintain installation standards and conduct periodic audits.
Keep accurate network records and engineering documentation.
Troubleshoot advanced issues across cellular and wireline networks.
Track network performance and industry trends.
Define network design parameters including cost considerations.
Perform other related duties as needed. Requirements:
Cisco CCNP Routing & Switching (Route, Switch & Tshoot exams), Security (SISAS, SENSS, SIMOS, SITCS exams) or Service Provider (SPROUTE, SPADVROUTE, SPCIRE & SPEDGE exams); or Cisco equivalent / relevant network certifications, such as CompTia A+ or CompTia Cloud+
Basic understanding of TDM networks, SONET networks, WDM/CWDM/DWDM/RoADM networks, fiber optics and DC/AC power systems
Understanding of software defined networks and network virtualization.
Experience network monitoring; APIs, SNMP, etc.
Advance understanding of cellular theory and technologies; such as PDSN, AAA, MEE, HSS, S-GW, P-GW and SAPC.
Advanced understanding of IP Networks; MPLS and Metro Ethernet / MEF networks.
Advance understanding of network security; experience with Cisco firewalls preferred.
Experience with Cisco IOS/XR-IOS required.
3 to 5 years of experience in the telecommunications industry; preferably in a wireless and service provider environment.
