This hands-on position supports the production ofhigh-quality southern pine seed, contributing directly to the health andsustainability of forests across the Southeast.

We are currently hiring a Seed Orchard Technician at our orchards in Eutaw, AL and Pickensville, AL.

Location: Eutaw, AL / Pickensville, AL Department: Forest Resources

Type: Full-Time Salaried Non-Exempt

Reports to: Tree Improvement Forester

What You'll Do

As a Seed Orchard Technician, you'll be responsible for the daily careand operation of our seed orchards, ensuring optimal conditions for tree growthand seed production. You'll work with specialized equipment, assist in breedingand harvesting operations, and help maintain the health of our orchard trees.This role combines fieldwork, equipment handling, and leadership of seasonalcrews-all contributing to the long-term success of our treeimprovement program.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with cone harvesting and spring breeding operations (CMP)

Assist with Progeny test establishment, maintenance, and measurement

Maintain orchard grounds: mowing, spraying, fertilizing, and pest control

Operate and repair orchard equipment and infrastructure

Lead and audit contract labor crews

Provide emergency call-out services when needed

Support nursery operations during sowing and harvesting

Ensure safety and cleanliness across all work areas

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED (Associate's in Forestry, Agriculture, or Horticulture preferred)

1-2 years of experience in farming, construction, welding, or equipment maintenance

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Self-motivation, attention to detail, and a passion for learning

Preferred Skills:

Background in forestry, agriculture, or farming

Welding and equipment repair

Forklift and tractor operation

Spanish language proficiency

A Day in the Life

Your day starts early, surrounded by the fresh air and natural beauty ofour orchards. You might begin with a walk-through to monitor tree health,followed by hands-on tasks like grafting, fertilizing, or pest control. Springbrings the excitement of control mass pollination (CMP), while fall is allabout cone harvesting.

You'll operate and maintain equipment like tractors, manlifts, andirrigation systems, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Some days, you'll leadcontract crews, audit their work, or jump in to support nursery teams duringseedling harvests. Every day is different, but each one contributes to agreener tomorrow.

The base salary range for this position is $54,700 - $82,100. The actual base salary is based on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.
