Overview:
We are seeking experienced Medical Coders to support coding and policy-related functions using ICD and other classification systems. These roles involve analyzing and applying medical codes, interpreting policies, and ensuring proper documentation in line with state, federal, and organizational standards. Level will be determined based on years of relevant experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze and apply ICD codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures
Serve as a subject matter expert on ICD policy and coding systems
Interpret and implement federal and state coding regulations
Perform regular maintenance and updates to coding data in internal systems
Analyze reports to ensure accurate use of coding protocols
Collaborate across departments to ensure consistent application of ICD policies
Assist in the development and communication of coding-related procedures
Required Skills & Knowledge:
Strong understanding of ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems and medical terminology
Familiarity with anatomy, physiology, and healthcare delivery systems
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint)
Excellent analytical, research, and reporting skills
Ability to interpret healthcare laws, regulations, and accreditation standards (e.g., AAPC, AHIMA)
Experience working with health information systems and claims data
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Minimum Qualifications:
Credentialed with RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, or CPC
Medical Coder 2: 3–4 years of experience
