DEPARTMENT: Operational Excellence REPORTS TO: Henrique Formolo POSITION PURPOSE: The Operational Excellence Technician will play a key role in supporting and advancing Capstone Green Energy's manufacturing and operational excellence.
This hybrid position bridges the gap between hands-on production floor knowledge and tactical continuous improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will be a self-driven, hands-on oriented individual with strong observational skills and a passion for process improvement.
This role requires a deep understanding of assembly, welding, testing, and warehouse operations, with the ability to identify inefficiencies, document standardized procedures, and implement low-cost, high-impact solutions.
Reporting to Operational Excellence Manager, this individual will help shape floor-level strategies, contribute to layout planning, support EHS compliance activities, and act as a versatile resource across departments.
The technician will be expected to think critically, document effectively, and support change initiatives with both data and hands-on execution.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Observe and analyze manufacturing processes (assembly, welding, testing, warehousing) to identify key activities and areas for improvement.
* Conduct time studies, draft and implement Standard Work Instructions (SWIs) with limited guidance.
* Assist in planning factory and workstation layouts; take accurate measurements and document findings.
* Support the fabrication and installation of factory fixtures such as custom racks (e.g., using Creoform or similar solutions). * Execute minor repair and facility improvement tasks, applying handyman-level skills where necessary.
* Perform and document routine safety checks, including fire extinguisher inspections and EHS audits.
* Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives using lean methodologies.
* Assist with light data tracking and analysis using Excel to support improvement projects.
* Coordinate with line leads and supervisors to validate processes and implement changes on the floor.
* Flexibly support production when necessary during high-priority periods, though this is not a daily production role.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED * Strong practical knowledge of manufacturing environments; ability to understand production line flow, constraints, and equipment.
* Hands-on aptitude with tools and facility improvement tasks.
* Ability to break down processes into logical, standardized steps and draft clear, concise documentation such as SWIs, checklists, or visual work aids.
* Excellent observational and diagnostic skills, able to see the big picture and fine details.
* Familiarity with Excel (basic data entry, filtering, formatting). * Self-starter attitude with strong organizational and follow-through skills.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills across all levels of the organization.
* Capable of balancing short-term support tasks with long-term project responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED * 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment, ideally in a line lead, technician, or CI-focused role.
* Demonstrated experience with documenting procedures or process improvements.
* Facility maintenance or handyman experience is a plus.
* Experience working with lean tools, Kaizen, or basic layout planning is highly desirable.
* No formal engineering degree required, but technical aptitude and factory floor familiarity are essential.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience with safety protocols and EHS practices in a manufacturing setting.
* Working knowledge of 5S, visual management, and basic lean manufacturing principles.
* Ability to read simple mechanical drawings or interpret basic CAD layouts.
* Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT * This position is 100% on-site.
Remote or hybrid work is not available.
* Frequent work on the production floor in a manufacturing setting.
* Use of hand tools and basic measurement equipment.
* Periodic desk work for documentation, planning, and reporting.
* Extensive periods of walking, standing, or light lifting.
* Occasional extended hours to support key projects or activities.
The pay range for this position is $28.5 - $33.5 per hour.
