Description:

Recreation therapist will provide ancillary therapy assessments, individual treatment sessions and facilitate goal specific small group sessions. Will carry a caseload, develop, and implement therapeutic interventions to address the individual treatment goal of each assigned resident, and complete all related documentation. Will assist with the development of a related program strategy and monitoring and evaluating resident outcomes. Provides timely and accurate documentation. Participates in referral development activities as directed. Will assist in the facilitation of both on campus activities/events and therapeutic outings. Will co-facilitate weekly Equine Therapy sessions.

Maintains strict confidentiality and privacy of students' and residents' personally identifiable health information in accordance with HIPAA privacy rules and Facility policies. Meets mandatory staff development requirement per the standards of all regulatory and accrediting agencies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and certification.

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum of 6 months in a behavioral healthcare / recreation therapy setting with the population served.

Required Skills, Licenses / Certifications

Certified as Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (eligible to be certified may be considered.)

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

First Aide

Approved behavioral intervention / management program

Valid Driver's License in good standing

General Requirements

Must be at least 19 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children's Residential Facilities.

Required Skills Knowledge and Abilities

Ability to effectively present information to groups.

Communicate in English effectively and document information accurately.

Communicate effectively with all disciplines involved in the care of the resident / student.

Ability to work well with others in a team setting and work well with a moderate level of direct supervision.

Possess basic knowledge of child and adolescent development, childcare principles and practices, positive peer culture, and mental health principles.

Knowledge of basic psychiatric terminology.

Ability to develop healthy relationships with children and adolescents and consistently apply rules, expectations, and behavioral interventions.

Proficient with Windows, Outlook, internet research, MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
