As a Mortgage Loan Officer at SBSU, you’ll build lasting relationships with real estate professionals, builders, and community members to generate mortgage referrals. You’ll guide clients through the loan process with care and expertise—interviewing borrowers, evaluating financials, and recommending loan options. Success in this role means delivering exceptional service, staying current on lending regulations, and representing SBSU’s values with integrity and professionalism. This position will be located in-office in our new Kanab branch building and is not a remote work opportunity.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Make outside sales and customer service calls on present and prospective customers within SBSU’s banking area.

Ensures an exceptional experience by overseeing loan processes from origination to close and providing on-going communication to customers and business partners.

Ensures that the loan applications and all pre-processing functions are completed and provided to the customer in a timely manner.

Qualifies potential customers; builds rapport and establishes trust; asks questions to discover client business needs; applies product and market knowledge effectively; presents solutions that meet customer objectives; manages and documents sales process.

Actively participate in community organizations and activities in a manner which reflects favorably on the Bank. Maintain close contact with local builders, real estate brokers and agents, customers and prospects.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, across a variety of audiences. Exhibits good listening and comprehension; keeps others adequately informed. Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; presents numerical data effectively; able to read and interpret written information.

Cooperate with, participate in, and support the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the Bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Promote and cross-sell other banking products and services as appropriate to customer requirements.

Develop innovative approaches and ideas. Identify and analyze potential loan markets to develop prospects for residential real estate loans. Provide loan data to support marketing and sales promotion programs.

Establish and maintain effective relations; exhibits tact and consideration; offer assistance and support to co-workers; work cooperatively in group situations; work actively to resolve conflicts.

Ability to generate annual production volumes of $10+ million

Minimum Qualifications

2 years of mortgage lending experience or banking experience

Must satisfactorily pass criminal background check, a credit report, and register with the National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLSR).

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or finance

4+ years of mortgage lending experience

Experience in Conventional, FHA, VA, RDA, Jumbo, and Utah Housing loan products

Demonstrated success in prospecting, generating leads, closing business and consistently meeting/exceeding production goals.

Verifiable, established network of referral business including Real Estate professionals and other centers of influence.

Demonstrated understanding of mortgage processing, underwriting and closing procedures.

Understanding of conventional and Federal Regulations governing Real Estate Lending.

Skills

Good sales, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Strong computer skills including a fundamental understanding of Microsoft Office Excel and Word applications.

Solid time management skills and the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Understand business implications of decisions; display orientation to profitability; demonstrate knowledge of market and competition; align work with strategic goals.

Requires minimal supervision and is motivated to increase productivity.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
