Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Systems Programmer to join our IT infrastructure team in Cleveland, Ohio. This position is responsible for the overall engineering, operations, and strategic planning of the IBM z/OS mainframe environment and related IBM and third-party software. The ideal candidate will be a technical leader with deep expertise in mainframe systems and a passion for optimizing performance, reliability, and security across critical enterprise platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for IBM z/OS and associated mainframe systems.

Provide advanced technical expertise and support to infrastructure, application, and operations teams.

Lead the installation, configuration, customization, and maintenance of IBM z/OS and major third-party software (TopSecret, CA-1, CA-Disk, BMC AMI Storage, Endevor, MIM, VPS, etc.).

Perform and manage CICS administration, including performance tuning and troubleshooting.

Conduct capacity planning, performance analysis, and system tuning for mainframe, storage, and tape systems.

Support disaster recovery (DR) planning and annual DR testing for mainframe and storage environments.

Develop and maintain technical standards, documentation, and operational procedures.

Oversee software upgrades, maintenance cycles, and hardware refreshes.

Ensure security best practices and compliance across the mainframe environment.

Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical direction to support teams and IT staff.

Partner with IT leadership to define long-term mainframe strategies and explore modernization opportunities (Linux on Z, hybrid cloud integration, etc.). Required Qualifications

10+ years of experience as a Systems Programmer supporting complex IBM z/OS mainframe environments.

Expert-level knowledge of z/OS administration, installation, maintenance, and performance tuning.

Strong technical skills in IBM mainframe hardware, including installation, firmware management, and lifecycle planning.

In-depth knowledge of storage and tape management systems, including replication and backup technologies.

Expertise in CICS administration and mainframe security tools and methodologies.

Working knowledge of IDMS database administration and related concepts.

5+ years of experience providing technical leadership and engineering support to infrastructure teams.

Proven track record in managing large-scale mainframe projects, including hardware refreshes, major upgrades, and consolidations.

Experience with software from CA, BMC, LRS, and Information Builders.
