Job Description

Here at Creative Liquid Coatings we do far more than just liquid coatings. Over the past 30 years the business has expanded to offer advanced plastic injection molding capability with 40 machines ranging in size from 100 ton to 3600 ton at our HQ facilities. In addition to plastics molding we offer world class automated paint finishing capability. Our versatile paint lines can handle parts that are very small and all the way up to 10 feet long. We process an array of performance materials from commodity grades to custom blends and engineered thermoplastic resins.

SUMMARY

This position reports to the Manager, Advanced Development & Technology and is responsible for ensuring the accurate dimensional definition, measurement, and inspection of manufactured components and assemblies. The GD&T and Gauge Engineer serves as the company's technical expert for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack-up analysis, and the design and implementation of all related metrology and gauging solutions. The role is critical to the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process, driving high-quality standards and robust inspection methods from concept through production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The GD&T and Gauge Engineer shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following tasks:

GD&T and Dimensional Engineering

· Act as the company's internal expert for the application and interpretation of ASME Y14.5 standards across all engineering drawings and inspection plans.

· Collaborate with Design Engineering to review and define optimal GD&T schemes to ensure part functionality, manufacturability, and proper inspection prior to design freeze/Tool Kick Off (TKO).

· Perform tolerance stack-up analyses (both 2D and 3D) on complex assemblies to predict dimensional variation, define critical to quality (CTQ) characteristics, and optimize tolerance assignment.

· Support the creation of Dimensional Control Plans and define measurement strategies for Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions, working along side our Advanced Quality Engineering Team.

· Provide technical support and guidance for CMM programming (Coordinate Measuring Machine) and non-contact metrology systems (e.g. Faro Arm), ensuring programs accurately reflect GD&T requirements.

Recommend and guide customers on the best inspection practices for their application.

Gauge and Inspection Tooling Management

· Lead the design & specification of all production gauges, fixtures, check aids, and functional gages (e.g., Go/No-Go gages, attribute gages).

· Perform Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (Gage R&R) studies and Measurement System Analysis (MSA) to validate and prove out new and existing inspection equipment.

· Develop and manage the documentation required for gauge use, maintenance, and periodic calibration, integrating them into the overall quality management system.

· Communicate with external suppliers for gauge design and fabrication, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to all technical specifications.

Advanced Quality Support

· Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality teams to troubleshoot and resolve chronic dimensional issues and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) related to measurement error or part non-conformance.

· Provide training and mentorship to Quality Technicians, Inspectors, and Engineers on advanced GD&T concepts, measurement best practices, and gauge utilization.

· Stay updated on the latest industry standards, metrology equipment, and software related to dimensional inspection and quality control.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

· Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering or a related technical field from an accredited college or university.

· 5+ years of progressive experience in Quality Engineering, Dimensional Engineering, or a related role focused on GD&T and metrology in a plastics/injection molding manufacturing environment.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Expert proficiency in the application and interpretation of ASME Y14.5 (2009 or later). Certification (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or GD&T Professional Certification) is highly desirable.

· Strong practical experience with Gauge and Fixture Design principles and best practices.

· Demonstrated ability to perform detailed Tolerance Stack-up Analysis.

· Familiarity with various metrology equipment, including CMMs, vision systems, scanners, and traditional measurement tools, with a strong understanding of Measurement System Analysis (MSA/Gage R&R).

· Proficiency in at least one 3D CAD system or viewer (e.g., SpinFire, SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or other) for blueprint review, model interrogation, and gauge design support.

· Must have knowledge of injection molded part design, tooling, and processing basics, particularly as they relate to dimensional stability and plastic tolerancing for parts and assemblies.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

· Must be a self-motivated and goal-driven problem-solver with a proactive approach to preventing quality issues.

· Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to clearly articulate complex dimensional concepts to cross-functional teams (Design, Manufacturing, Quality & Customers).

· Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy manufacturing environment.

· Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook.

· Must be able to work in both individual and team environments.

· Must be self-motivated and goal driven...proactive and works for results.
