Job Description
A leading utility support services company is seeking an experienced Road Mechanic to support field operations across Eastern North Carolina. This role supports the fleet for a major power utility contractor, servicing bucket trucks, digger derricks, cranes, and a wide range of hydraulic and heavy equipment used in utility construction.
You’ll diagnose and repair equipment in the field, keeping crews up and running and supporting critical utility operations.
What You’ll Do
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair medium-duty trucks & utility fleet equipment, including bucket trucks, digger derricks, boom systems (re-hosing booms & hydraulic repairs), cranes, small excavators, skid steers, forklifts, and service trucks
Perform heavy diesel work including in-frame repairs, drivetrain components, and engine/aftertreatment systems (DEF, DPF, SCR)
Identify & repair hydraulic failures, electrical issues, chassis components, and emissions faults
Operate diagnostic software (bonus: Cummins Insite, CAT ET, Altec/utility boom diagnostics)
Perform DOT/road-test checks to verify repairs when qualified
Maintain accurate repair documentation through company tablet system
Work independently in the field — responsible for tools, truck, and job execution
Provide support to shop when field needs are lighter (LaGrange base)
Territory: Based out of LaGrange, NC — covering region to I-95/Fayetteville/Benton area
Schedule & Work Environment
Typical hours: 50–60 hours/week, depending on crew schedules
Monday–Friday with occasional early/late days based on field needs
Field-based role with home-dispatch capability (company truck)
Overnight lodging & meals covered when required
What You’ll Need
Valid driver’s license — CDL Class A preferred (or willingness to obtain one; company supported)
Strong experience with medium-duty diesel chassis & hydraulic utility equipment
Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision
Professional tools (company supplies specialty tools & diagnostic equipment)
Clean driving record; ability to pass background & drug screening
Strong troubleshooting skills across multiple systems (diesel, hydraulic, electrical)
Bonus: Boom/utility fleet experience (Altec, Terex, Elliott, etc.)
