Our client, an esteemed global law firm, is hiring an Assistant Director of Business Development in their Houston office (hybrid role). This leadership position drives business development, marketing, communications, and branding efforts, with a focus on regional growth and practice group support. The role oversees a local team, manages budgets, and collaborates globally on strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with local leadership and global BD&M teams to create and implement strategic growth and marketing plans for Houston and relevant practice groups.
Guide and support attorneys in developing tailored go-to-market plans to deepen client relationships and capture new business.
Lead pipeline initiatives, including pursuit strategies, opportunity tracking, and cross-practice collaboration.
Manage the development of proposals, presentations, and RFP responses, and coordinate follow-up and outcome tracking.
Conduct market, client, and competitor research to identify growth opportunities and support strategic decision-making.
Oversee submissions for rankings and accolades, such as Chambers and industry awards.
Direct client engagement strategies including events, thought leadership, and targeted campaigns.
Promote brand visibility through speaking engagements, media outreach, and other external opportunities.
Support integration of lateral hires and new partners with customized business development plans.
Maintain and update marketing materials, web content, and firm collateral related to Houston.
Work with firmwide communications to engage with local press, pitch stories, and support media opportunities.
Manage budgets, resources, and reporting for all Houston marketing and business development activity.
Supervise, coach, and develop the local team; oversee recruitment, training, and performance management.
Ensure compliance with firm policies and uphold best practices across all BD functions.
Required Skills & Competencies
Extensive knowledge of professional services marketing and client development
Strong writing, research, and analytical abilities
Proficiency in tools such as Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and design software (e.g., InDesign)
Exceptional project management, prioritization, and decision-making skills
Adept at influencing and advising stakeholders at all levels
Ability to work under pressure, juggle competing priorities, and exercise sound judgment
Strong interpersonal, communication, and team leadership capabilities
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; JD or MBA preferred
10+ years in business development or marketing within professional services; law firm experience a plus
10+ years of management experience, including team leadership
Experience in media relations or communications preferred
