Overview

My client is a global leader in designing and manufacturing equipment for the Engineered Wood products industry. We have an exciting opportunity to join their Electrical Team as a Mechatronics Technologist . The client offers competitive salaries, bonuses, benefits, and an outstanding work-life balance.

The Role:

Reporting to the Manager of Digital Transformation and Automation, the primary responsibility of the Mechatronics Technologist will be to design, specify, and integrate new and/or prototype equipment developed or supplied by the client.

Responsibilities:

Design & Innovate: Draft and customize electrical / controls packages for new OEM equipment in EPLAN.

Prototype & Test: Lead “first-of-kind” builds in our lab; iterate with mechanical, electrical and data-science teams.

Launch & Travel: Commission systems and train operators at client plants (typically 30-40 % travel, passport required).

Upgrade & Optimize: Re-engineer legacy designs for cost, safety, and supply-chain resilience.

Collaborate & Mentor: Be the electrical go-to for Sales, Ops and Procurement; coach junior technologists.

Solve the urgent: Jump on customer calls, diagnose faults, and push critical fixes overnight when needed.

Qualifications:

A Technology Diploma in electrical engineering or mechatronics or equivalent.

5 + years designing industrial control systems.

Advanced user of EPLAN plus Rockwell Studio 5000 / FactoryTalk.

Hands-on experience with VFDs, safety PLCs, and industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, ProfiNet, CIP Safety).

Proven record of taking a concept from whiteboard to production line.

Passport + Class 5 driver’s licence; comfortable with solo international travel.

Preferred Skills:

EPLAN Certified Engineer (ECE).

Project-management training (CAPM/PMP).

Start-up/commissioning experience at sawmills, pulp & paper, or process plants.

Familiarity with Inductive Automation Ignition, Python, or edge-compute IIoT platforms
