Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Project Manager / Architect / Engineer I (R0038) in Capital Design and Construction.
The successful candidate will be responsible for administering all aspects of a construction project from conception to final completion, including the selection of a design firm, overseeing the design process to ensure the project design meets end-user and university department requirements, adhering to budget and schedule constraints, and ensuring compliance with code requirements.
In addition, the successful candidate will also coordinate the project's design and construction with multiple Commonwealth agencies and local utility providers, assist the Materiel Management department with solicitation of construction bids, and oversee the construction process to ensure construction projects are completed on schedule and meet the requirements of construction documents.
This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties: * Collaborate with contractors, architects, and inspectors to ensure all design documents and construction activities comply with building codes and designated budgets, while maintaining University design standards * Assist the Facilities Management department in coordinating mechanical and electrical systems * Provide a review of design and contract documents to comply with good construction techniques * Manage the project budget through all phases to ensure expenditures and encumbrances do not exceed available funds * Supervise support staff, including project inspectors, and potentially an assistant project manager * Monitor the project schedule and budget * Document meetings with user groups * Work with appropriate state agencies, public utility companies, and local municipalities to provide appropriate approvals throughout the design and construction phases of a project * Other duties as assigned Requirements: * Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Engineering, or equivalent experience * Broad and thorough knowledge of architectural or engineering principles, mathematics, physical and applied science, properties of materials, and fundamentals of design * Fundamental knowledge of budget creation and tracking requirements * Significant knowledge of planning and construction techniques * Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and Bluebeam * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Ability to manage multiple projects and perform detailed work * Excellent interpersonal skills * Strong organizational skills * Professional Engineering or Architecture license preferred * Knowledge of CADD or Revit preferred * Experience with the Commonwealth's Construction and Professional Services Manual preferred Additional Information: This is a full-time, restricted-classified, exempt position in a pay band 5.
