Elementary Teacher Job Description

Job Title: Elementary Classroom Teacher

Reports To: School Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Terms of Employment: 190 Days

Compensation: Based on the Abbeville County School District Certified Teacher Salary Schedule

Job Summary: The Elementary Classroom Teacher, under the supervision of the School Principal, is responsible for facilitating student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills. The teacher implements district-approved curriculum, assesses and monitors student progress, and creates a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. The teacher communicates regularly with students, parents, and staff to support learning, development, and positive school culture.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related field.

Certification: Valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education.

Experience: Experience in an elementary classroom preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong understanding of child development and effective instructional strategies.

Knowledge of district curriculum and state standards.

Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with disabilities.

Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.

Proficiency with technology for instruction, assessment, and communication.

Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Primary Responsibilities

Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to district curriculum and state standards.

Create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning, safety, and respect.

Assess student learning using formative and summative measures; adjust instruction based on data.

Provide targeted support to students through differentiated instruction and intervention strategies.

Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, expectations, and behavior.

Maintain accurate and complete records of student performance, attendance, and communication.

Participate in grade-level, school, and district professional development and team meetings.

Administer district and state assessments as required.

Demonstrate professionalism and ethical conduct in all interactions. Secondary Responsibilities

Supervise students in non-classroom settings such as hallways, playgrounds, cafeteria, or field trips.

Assist in curriculum evaluation and improvement efforts at the grade or school level.

Support student extracurricular or enrichment activities when appropriate.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee to support school and district goals. Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift.

Sufficient vision, hearing, and speech to communicate effectively and perform instructional duties.

Ability to perform job duties in both indoor and outdoor settings, including supervising students during recess, programs, field trips, and any other assigned by the Principal. Work Environment

Work performed primarily in a standard classroom environment.

May require occasional travel between district schools or to professional meetings.

Exposure to normal classroom and playground conditions including moderate noise levels. Compensation: Compensation is established in accordance with the Abbeville County School District's Certified Teacher Salary Schedule and based on education and years of experience as verified by Human Resources.
