About us

National Grid is at the heart of the UK energy network keeping people connected and society moving. We develop, own and maintain the physical infrastructure, such as pylons and cables needed to move the electricity generated from windfarms and power sources around the country. Every time a phone is plugged in, or a switch is turned on, we’ve played a part, connecting you to the electricity you need - and we’re leading the transformation towards a greener future, dreaming bigger to bring a more affordable energy future to everyone.

But it’s our people that provide our true superpower. They drive and sustain our growth, their unique differences only making us stronger. But it’s no small feat – and we need the best to join us in our mission. So, join us and power the future of energy.

About the role

We’re National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED), the owner and operator behind the electricity distribution systems for the Midlands, the Southwest of England and South Wales. Serving communities of more than 8 million people, our expert teams deliver heat, light and power for homes and businesses.

Working today in regulation in the UK energy sector comes at an important time as we transition towards Net Zero. At NGED, we work with the regulator (Ofgem) to secure the best regulatory package to deliver these commitments. This means balancing our business need for the necessary funding to invest in the infrastructure to achieve Net Zero targets, with keeping bills affordable for our customers. We also need to ensure we comply with all aspects of our Licence and statutory obligations.

NGED has an important task of keeping the lights on for 8 million customers across the South-West, South-Wales and the East- and West-Midlands. You will work within the NGED Regulation team to ensure the wider business understand and comply with our Licence and statutory obligations, to ensure NGED is on track to deliver against the RIIO-ED2 regulatory package, and support us as we prepare for our next price control period, RIIO-ED3.

Reporting to the Regulation & Compliance Manager, the Regulatory Analyst will work within various parts of the NGED Regulation team to gain an understanding of the role of the Regulation team within National Grid and how we add value to delivering core NGED business values and objectives

As part of your internship, you will develop and become competent in aspects of the below throughout your placement (depending on deliverables during this period):

Working with the Regulatory Compliance team to monitor compliance with the Licence and communicating changes to the business

Supporting input to regulatory consultations, co-ordinating with internal teams where required; and managing the response process

Supporting production of RIIO-ED2 re-opener submissions

Supporting production of reporting to Ofgem, including RRP (regulatory reporting packs) and PCD (price control deliverables) reporting, and ensuring all reports are submitted to Ofgem as required.

Supporting in the preparation of messaging and presentation materials for meetings with Ofgem

Working with the ED3 Regulation team on development of the ED3 price control; this could involve data analysis, or co-ordinating inputs from across the business.
