Full Job Description

Immediate need of power system engineer. Requires a bachelor’s degree and in support of all aspects of transmission studies on power flow, voltage stability, transient stability and other power system analyses. Familiar with PSS/E or TARA. Preference will be given to candidates with Ph.D. Or master’s degree in Power Systems. Remote position available for Senior experience. Other will be given priority if interested and able to work in Canada with relocation to be considered.

Responsibilities

Will perform power system analysis for 138 kV and above transmission system, including power flow, voltage stability, transient stability and short circuit analyses.

Will prepare steady state, short circuit and dynamic models

Will support senior engineer in preparing technical reports.

Will offer technical consultations and oversee the process of new generationinterconnection requests throughout the planning cycle.

•Will conduct and review system impact studies, analyzing steady-state load flow and transient stability performance, as well as performing reactive planning, Load Interconnection studies, and mitigation planning.

•Will use use PSS/e and TARA to conduct voltage ride-through and critical clearing time analysis for generator interconnection studies related to upcoming renewable

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

Must have 6+ years of power systems analysis experience using PSS/E, TSAT or PSLF

The candidate needs to have experience in stability study using PSS/E, EMT study using PSCAD or EMTP, congestion analysis/cost modeling studies or cluster feasibility Studies across various ISOs (MISO, CAISO, PJM, SPP or other ISOs)

Knowledge in electric power systems, synchronous generator, motor, power electronic inverters, wind turbines and solar.

Experience with transmission studies on power flow, voltage stability, and other power system analyses.

Proficient with the PSS®E software package, including all modules for load-flow, short-circuit and transient stability analysis. Experience with alternative planning software applications, including TARA, PSLF, DigSILENT, or DSA Tools, is highly desirable

Background in static and dynamic modelling of power systems components in PSS/E or DSA tools, including HVDC, VSC, Static Var Compensators, STATCOM and Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitors.

PSS/E model development and IPLAN and/or Python programming is an asset

Knowledge of reliability and interconnection of the transmission system.

Experience with ISO transmission stability analysis is huge plus

Understanding of ISO cluster interconnection process

Basic knowledge of substation layout and protection and control

Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
