Job Description
The On-Call Nurse monitors, provides guidance, and trains the Individual Supports Provider staff based on policy, procedures and Rule 116 while assuring the health, safety and wellbeing of each resident. This position works remotely and is eligible for a $400 stipend for on-call coverage per weekend starting Fridays at 5:00pm to Mondays to 9:00am (plus 1 additional report hour).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain current knowledge of medical and psychiatric needs of individuals in the program
Ensure that individuals served have access to appropriate medical supports and services
Manage medical orders and medication supply during on-call hours
Provide triage when appropriate
Provide on-call supports regarding medication dispensation and acute medical need to Individual Supports Providers during medication administration window when applicable
Communicate effectively with physicians, pharmacists, program staff, and families regarding acute medical issues that arise, including changes in prescribed treatments
Ensure agency compliance with Rule 116
Completion of Rule 116 RN Trainer course and certification
May participate in on-going health, wellness and injury prevention trainings
Ensure communication regarding current medical issues with staff RN Trainer prior to and at conclusion of scheduled shift.
Must be able to work 12 weekends and 2 national holidays at a minimum per year.
REQUIREMENTS:
Registered nurse with experience working with individuals with Intellectual/ Developmental Disabilities
A minimum of two years of nursing experience
DHS RN nurse trainer certification or ability to obtain
Valid Driver’s License, safe driving record and access to a vehicle
CPR/First Aid trainer certification preferred
Must possess an active Illinois RN license.
An Illinois residency and an active/current Illinois Registered Nurse license are required.
