Description
We are seeking an experienced nurse to join the Student Health Center team in a unique role in which the nurse lives in a one bedroom apartment on campus to support students' health needs over the course of the nights Sunday through Thursday (11PM-7AM). On-call pay is $10/hour and all working hours are paid at a competitive nursing hourly rate based on qualifications.
The nurse will support students, campers, and others in the school community. This individual will actively cultivate good working relationships between the Health Center and students, parents, residential community members, and area health care providers.
This is a part-time year-round (12 month), hourly non-exempt position and is eligible for provided (free) housing and utilities, but not eligible for any other benefits.
Key Responsibilities
Rounds at the start and end of shift to transition care;
status checks throughout the night as required by care plan;
provide care as needed to students who are admitted or need to be admitted;
safely dispense prescription medications according to physician orders;
safely dispense over-the-counter medications according to the school Student Health Center Standing Orders;
provide nursing care/first aid for the illnesses and injuries of students, faculty/staff, and families of faculty/staff who live on campus;
assist students in the management of chronic health conditions;
be prepared to respond to health emergencies on campus and communicate/work with the designated Faculty Campus Coverage;
document nursing actions in a timely manner;
provide other support as needed such as getting meals for patients from the dining hall on campus;
and demonstrate deep understanding of, support for, and desire to live out school's mission for the good of school's boys - including both the school’s commitment to character development and the ideals of honor, truth, and duty and the school’s Christian foundation and Judeo-Christian heritage.
Requirements
The school is able to provide our boarding students a rich residential life experience through employees who live on campus and invest in the lives of students. Therefore, a requirement of living in campus housing is high relational, advisory, and leadership capabilities that will influence the students and community.
Current RN or LPN license with the state of Tennessee, RN highly preferred.
Current CPR/BLS training.
Experience in clinical nursing practice.
Computer proficiency for web-based documentation.
Ability to work independently according to health center established protocols and procedures under the supervision of the Director of the School's Student Health Center and within the scope of nursing practice for the State of Tennessee.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with students and parents, with faculty/staff, and with other members of the Student Health Center staff.
Valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
Prior experience in pediatric or school nursing preferred.
Physical Requirements/Qualifications:
The School is located on the side of Missionary Ridge. Some work is performed at a desk, but the job also requires moving to tend to patients both in the Student Health Center and other locations on campus. Some driving - either of a golf cart or a car - may be required to transport patients or run errands.
