Summary:

In this role you will plan and coordinate nursing services with those of the medical and administrative systems. The Director of Nursing will participate as a member of the hospital's management team in planning, policy formulation, and administrative decision making with attention to the role, functions, and operations of the hospital's nursing services. The position leads our Acute Care and Surgical Services Managers who support patient care, risk management, utilization management, resource management, and fiscal management, and specific specialties such as OB, ED, swing bed, and other medical/surgical units.

Typical Schedule:

Full-time. Monday-Friday.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Participates at senior-management level in all planning, budgeting, policy making, and decision making related to clinical operations involving nursing staff.

Develops, maintains, implements and communicates nursing policies and procedures to staff that conform to current standards of nursing practice and organizational philosophy.

Assesses the quality of care rendered.

Ensures that nursing aspects related to risk management, reimbursement, financial management, and other administrative functions are incorporated into operational systems.

Monitors outcomes, budget results, patient satisfaction surveys, and other indicators of nursing performance.

Develops a human resources plan for nursing including staffing and types of nurses needed as well as related allied health staff. Works with human resources specialist and team leaders to recruit, select, orient, and train new staff.

Ensures the performance and productivity of all nursing staff are evaluated annually and periodically throughout the year. Advises on appropriate corrective actions and professional development opportunities.

Maintains high quality of care by nursing staff through continuous improvement of standards and protocols.

Collaborates with physicians, medical professionals, consultants, community agencies, and institutions to improve the quality of nursing services and resolve identified problems.

Ensures all staff are trained in quality assurance/control requirements and meet these standards.

Stays current with state, federal, and payer regulations/requirements and updates professional standards for nursing for the medical practice appropriately.

Serves as a spokesperson for nursing matters and represents the hospital with professional nursing and related organizations.

Participates in meetings and committees.

Pursues continuing education in related areas on a yearly basis.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supports and leads Acute Card and Surgical Services Managers in both daily operations and long-term strategic initiatives to drive team effectiveness and organizational goals.

Qualifications:

BSN required; MSN preferred or master’s in business, health administration or other related field.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in progressively expanding leadership accountabilities, preferred.

Current WI RN License and CPR certification, or ability to acquire, required.

Educational Oversight and Regulatory Compliance:

The Director of Nursing is responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of educational requirements and clinical competencies for all nursing staff. This includes establishing standards for initial and continuing education, ensuring alignment with current best practices, and adapting programs to meet evolving healthcare needs. The Director will regularly monitor compliance with these standards and maintain accountability for the timely completion of all required training and competency assessments.

This role also ensures that all nursing practices adhere to applicable state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and internal educational policies. The Director will serve as the primary authority for verifying that nursing staff meet all licensure, certification, and regulatory requirements, and will implement corrective actions when necessary to maintain
