Big South Fork Medical Center is seeking an experienced and professional RN Unit Manager (UM) for our MedSurg (Inpatient) Unit. Big South Fork Medical is a 25-bed critical access hospital located in Oneida, TN.
Under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), the Unit Manager provides clinical and administrative leadership for the MedSurg Unit. This is a hands-on role responsible for the day-to-day management of operations, workforce supervision, and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the management, supervision, and evaluation of care delivered by nursing and allied health staff on a 24-hour basis.
Facilitate patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing staff.
Direct daily operations, including staffing, scheduling, and workflow management.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
Monitor patient outcomes, quality metrics, and compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and support professional development.
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant documentation and reporting.
Provide direct patient care as needed to ensure continuity of services.
Oversee orientation and ongoing training for new and existing staff.
Maintain adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols; complete required annual education.
Assist in monitoring unit expenses and operating within budget parameters under the direction of the CNO.
Support the CNO with administrative reports, audits, and special projects.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education, Licensure/Certification
• Associate degree from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred
• Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Tennessee
• CPR, ACLS and PALS certification required (or must be obtained within introductory period).
Experience
• Minimum of three (3) years of nursing supervisory or leadership experience required
