Description:

Job title: Trainee Scientist

Location: Teesside (Billingham/Stockton)

We are proud to once again offer our Laboratory Scientist (Chemistry) level 6 degree apprenticeship scheme here at Catalyst Technologies. We are offering students funded study towards an industrial Chemical Science bachelor’s degree from Manchester Metropolitan University, whilst also gaining valuable industrial work experience, a competitive salary and excellent company benefits.

This year we are offering degree apprenticeships to start in September 2026.

On May 22, 2025, Honeywell PLC announced that it has agreed to acquire Johnson Matthey's Catalyst Technologies business segment. The combination of Johnson Matthey's Catalyst Technologies business with Honeywell's Energy and Sustainability Solutions (ESS) business segment is expected to add attractive high growth vectors to the portfolio and drive significant additional benefits through cost synergies.

The result is that whilst this role is currently advertising with Johnson Matthey, the apprenticeships will be partnered with Honeywell PLC on starting in September 2026.

Through this programme we will equip you with the experience, industry recognised accredited qualifications and tools to succeed. You will spend 80% of your time gaining real hands-on experience in the role and 20% dedicated to your studies, working with Manchester Metropolitan University to support your degree qualification.

You will work within our state-of-the-art labs with our experienced and talented Research & Development Teams, where you will support and facilitate various business projects and experimental programmes that generate new products, processes and understanding of commercial value via the foundational level of analytical techniques or preparation/testing of materials.

Applications are now open to candidates with (or predicted) BBC A level grades (with a minimum of a B in Chemistry). The roles will be based in Teesside, so consideration should be taken if you are looking to relocate. Unfortunately, no financial support can be provided to assist.

The application process will remain open until Thursday 18th December 2025. We will begin contacting successful candidates week commencing 5th January 2026.

If successful, you will then be required to attend an Assessment centre in Teesside on either 20th/21st/22nd January 2026
