Job Purpose

The HS Elective/Study Hall Teacher is our students academic guide. Using the approved curriculum, they help each student build the foundation needed to become lifelong learners. The majority of Career Prep students need to recover credit or are at risk of dropping out, therefore, the Teachers first responsibility is to build strong relationships and encourage daily attendance through engaging instruction. In addition to the subject matter, Teachers help students develop self-motivation resulting in graduation and career readiness.

Advisory:

Maintain a caseload of advisees

Meet with advisees on a regular basis to review Success Plan and student IRC participation

Participate in Career Check and Connect day monthly

Facilitate the completion of the OMJReadiness Seal for advisees

Teach and/or facilitate Industry Recognized Credential(s) within your building at a regular cadence during the CTE block of daily instruction

FusionEd Approved Curriculum/Systems

Use workbooks as written instruction in conjunction with online instruction

Develop differentiated lesson plans from the approved curriculum using a variety of techniques, visual aids, creative projects, and technology to engage students in learning

Verify enrollments to ensure all students are properly scheduled into classes

Update the gradebook and ensure that all assignments are done with fidelity

Course Completions

Gather necessary documentation when a student completes a course

course certificates x2 (one to the student and one to be included in their course completion packet)

Motivate students to achieve their full academic goals by filling out their daily Goal Sheet upon entering the classroom with classroom assignments

Monitor assignment completion during the day and sign off on daily Goal Sheet accordingly

Provide frequent student feedback

Grad Planners

Keep accurate records and are able to articulate Grad Planner to each student so that they know in which classes they have earned credit, in which classes they are currently scheduled, testing results, grade level, and classes remaining

Understand and articulate graduation options for the State of Ohio

MTSS

Attend monthly staff MTSS meeting to review student progress in all intervention programs

Implement math and ELA evidence-based practices

Participate in school-wide PBIS

Encourage daily attendance through engaging instruction and student/family communication

Help to maintain and update student information as directed by Principal/Assistant Principal

Retention

Establish and maintain a positive rapport with students and families

Participate in student retention and engagement events with Principal and staff

Student Academic Achievement

Attend a variety of in-depth, sustained professional learning experiences aligned with the school improvement plan for student achievement

Participate in curriculum and instructional development projects in collaboration with fellow faculty onsite and at other locations

Participate in ongoing professional development activities, including TBTs and BLTs

Employ data to personalize instruction and assessment to student needs, helping students fill gaps and see their own growth

Prepare students for and administer all standardized tests as directed

Effectively evaluate EOC and STAR data to determine learning gaps and implement evidence-based practices

Study Hall Supervision

Establish and maintain a structured, quiet, and productive environment for study hall periods.

Support students in setting academic goals, completing assignments, and managing time effectively.

Monitor student grades, attendance, and progress in core courses, communicate concerns to teachers, intervention specialists, and administration as needed.

Enforce school policies and maintain positive classroom management strategies.

Professionalism

Maintain accurate records of attendance, student work, and grades.

Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.

Adhere to school policies, code of conduct, and technology usage guidelines.

Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating respect, responsibility, and integrity.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Maintain effective communication with students, core content teachers, parents, staff, school administration, and other stakeholders

Participate in IEP, building-level meetings, professional development, teacher-based teams, and co-teaching activities as assigned

Maintain a positive school environment through effective conflict resolution, collaboration, positive reinforcement, and educational leadership modeling

Participate in school and extra-curricular activities as directed by the Principal

Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment, and discipline in an orderly fashion conducive to good learning

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding academic progress, attendance, and behavior.
