Description of WorkThe Health Care Technician II position is designated as a Peer Mentor in Cluster 2 and Cluster 4. The Peer Mentor will orient and train new Health Care Technicians. This position serves as on-the-job trainer and resource person for new hires providing feedback and monitoring of employee activities, tasks, and functions. Employees at this level are troubleshooters/problem-solvers and must be able to demonstrate Health Care Technician I level tasks, duties, and responsibilities. Employees in this class will spend most of the time in a mentor role. Work performed will be under the supervision of the Unit Nurse Manager and Floor-Shift Supervisor.

Recruitment Range: $39,312.00 - $43,302.00

A Sign-on bonus of $2,500 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Demonstrated skill in working directly with individuals with neurocognitive disorders, with coexisting complex medical and behavioral needs.

Ability to train and mentor adults in group and one-on-one setting and ability to effectively convey information to family members, individuals, and treatment team, under general supervision, in verbal and written forms.

Ability to document clear and concise notes of client progress and behaviors.

Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Ability to learn and apply behavior management and supportive counseling techniques.

This Position is Designated as Mandatory and Must Report or Stay over During Adverse Weather Events.

We will be Recruiting for Multiple Positions with this Post. Your Application will be Considered for all Noted Open Positions.

Available 8-Hour Shifts - Including Holidays and Every Other Weekend

B Shift (7:00am-3:30pm)

C-Shift (3:00pm-11:30pm)

Flexibility in working hours is required in order to meet the needs of the residents here at O'Berry Center.

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)

The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency

DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
