The Electrical Technician performs installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems during offshore shutdowns, ensuring safe and efficient operations in hazardous environments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Shutdown Electrical Works:
o Execute preventive/corrective maintenance on HV/LV systems (switchgear, transformers, motors, UPS).
o Install/test cable trays, conduits, junction boxes, and lighting systems.
o Troubleshoot motor control circuits, VFDs, and protection relays.
2. HSE Compliance:
o Follow QatarEnergy (QP) electrical safety rules (LOTO, arc flash prevention).
o Conduct insulation resistance (IR), megger, and continuity tests.
3. Testing & Commissioning:
o Perform loop checks, relay calibration, and thermographic inspections.
o Assist in energization/de-energization of critical systems.
4. Documentation:
o Update electrical logs, test reports, and as-built drawings.
o Report defects using CMMS (SAP, Maximo).
5. Coordination:
o Work with instrumentation/mechanical teams for integrated shutdown tasks.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
· Education: Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Trade Certification.
· Certifications (Mandatory):
o COMPEX (Ex01-Ex04) for hazardous areas.
o BOSIET/HUET, OPITO H2S/BA.
o HV/LV Switching Certification.
· Experience:
o 5+ years in offshore oil & gas electrical maintenance, with 3+ years in shutdowns.
o Familiarity with QP, Shell, or TotalEnergies standards.
· Technical Skills:
o Proficiency in PLC basics, motor controls, and electrical drawings.
o Knowledge of IEC/API/NEC standards.
