Position Description

The McGill University Department of Surgery, Division of Urology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is inviting applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The Department of Surgery is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The successful candidate will join an academic and high-volume comprehensive Division of Urology at the JGH—a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.

The McGill University Division of Urology is at the forefront of urological research in Canada and has achieved international recognition. The Division is composed of nineteen full-time urologists dedicated to the achievement of excellence in clinical urologic patient care, research, and education. The divisional members conduct adult and pediatric activities at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), the Jewish General Hospital (JGH), and St. Mary’s Hospital. This position will be based at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH).

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be involved in the academic activities of the McGill University Department of Surgery. They will be expected to engage in and develop an academic clinical and research practice in urologic oncology at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) and participate actively in all clinical activities. The incumbent will also be expected to share on call responsibilities and be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Candidates must:

Have a medical degree (MD), and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;

Have completed subspecialty training in Urology with a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification (or equivalent);

Have completed a minimum of one-year fellowship in urologic oncology;

Be an academic urologist licensed or be eligible for licensure in the province of Quebec;

Be committed to clinical excellence, research, and education;

Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
