About the Role

As an R&D Scientist at Actlabs, you will apply your expertise in ICP-OES and ICP-MS to advance the analytical capabilities of our geochemistry laboratories. Working closely with R&D staff and production teams, you’ll lead projects aimed at improving data quality, throughput, and cost efficiency in elemental analysis — driving innovation that delivers greater value to our clients worldwide.

This is a hands-on, laboratory-based role focused on method development, process optimization, and technical problem solving within an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited environment.

Key Responsibilities

R&D and Method Development

Develop, validate, and implement new analytical methods using ICP-OES and ICP-MS for geochemical and mineral samples.

Optimize existing analytical processes to improve accuracy, sensitivity, turnaround time, and cost efficiency.

Author and update SOPs, validation protocols, and technical reports.

Evaluate performance and suitability of new instrumentation, software, and sample introduction systems.

Technical Leadership and Support

Provide expert guidance and troubleshooting support to domestic and international laboratories.

Collaborate with QA and Operations teams on root cause investigations and CAPA implementation.

Deliver technical training and mentoring for analysts and supervisors.

Quality and Safety

Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and SCC accreditation requirements.

Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient laboratory environment aligned with company policies and best practices.

What You Bring

Education: M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Geochemistry, or related field.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressive R&D or analytical experience with ICP-OES and/or ICP-MS systems (Agilent, PerkinElmer, Thermo, or equivalent).

Proven track record in method development, instrument optimization, and data quality improvement.

Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and project management abilities.

Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel; statistical or data processing tools (e.g., JMP, Origin, or Python) an asset.

Ability to balance short- and long-term project priorities and occasionally travel as required.
