Description of WorkThe Administrative Assistant provides clerical/administrative support for the administration management staff of Tryon Palace, as well as support for the Tryon Palace Commission and Kellenberger Historical Foundation.

This position will work a Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule. Some evening, holiday and weekend hours may be required.

Management Prefers:

Demonstrated experience performing a variety of administrative support tasks and processes.

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provide accurate and timely minutes of board, committee and staff meetings.

Assist with preparation of, provide administrative support for, and attend meetings of commissions, boards and committees.

Purchase office supplies for the site.

Answer switchboard, directing calls to appropriate parties and providing information to callers about program and tour offerings at Tryon Palace.

Provide administrative support for and attend special programs as needed.

Provide assistance to the Accounting Department when needed.

Position/Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with one hour for lunch.

Must be able to work some weekend, holiday, and evening work as required.

Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Education and Experience

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference

Applicants seeking Veteran’s Preference must attach a DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, along with the state application.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS), along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.

Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard, with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22, along with the state application.
