General Summary: Under the lead of a higher classified employee, performs a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to keep the Jackson Police Department and property in a clean and orderly manner. Performs routine repairs and maintains grounds in surrounding areas.

Typical Duties:

Sweep exterior entrances, storage areas, and refuse removal Remove trash, debris, and unwanted vegetation from parking lots, sidewalks, and property.

Using a variety of tools and equipment to mow, trim, prune, and remove vegetation from landscaped areas.

Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop hard surface floors, stairwells, landings, and Vacuums carpeted areas.

Operates floor machine to strip, scrub, refinish and maintain hard surface

Empties waste receptacles/recycling.

Clean and sanitize drinking fountains, sinks, facets, fixtures, mirrors, Replenish restroom paper and soap dispenser.

Clean and sanitize breakrooms, offices, hallways, conference rooms, gym,

Receive and unload cleaning supplies and paper Stock items into designated areas.

Move or relocate office furniture such as tables, chairs, desks, and

Remove ice and snow from pathways, sidewalks, and entryways to the

Perform detailed cleaning of the interior and exterior of police May require occasional removal of biohazard materials.

Drive department vehicles to and from maintenance repair Drive department vehicles to deliver or pick up general supplies

Paint office spaces, walls, doors,

May perform minor vehicle maintenance duties such as adding fluids or replacing light bulbs.

May perform minor building maintenance tasks such as replacing air handler filters, light bulbs, ceiling tiles, etc.

Perform other related work as

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, talk and hear. The employee must be able to squat, stoop or kneel. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds of materials. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will occasionally push/pull up to 60 pounds, climb steps and step ladders while carrying articles and packages. The employee may drive an automobile several times per week.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work both indoors and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet or moderate.

Eligibility Requirements: High school graduate with one (1) year of satisfactory experience in janitorial or general facility maintenance duties. Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license. Must maintain said licenses or endorsements for duration of employment in this classification. In addition to the above requirements, all City positions require: the ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language as necessary for the position; the ability to follow written and oral instructions; and the ability to get along with other employees and members of the public. City employees are also expected to possess and maintain a record of orderly, law-abiding citizenship, sobriety, integrity and loyalty as it pertains to and reflects upon their employment with the City; and must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of their positions without excessive absences. Pay: $20.00/hr.

20 hours a week, (3 or 4 days a week, day shift hours)
