Job Summary:

The Unit Secretary-Acute Care Tech performs under the direct supervision of the RN and is organizationally accountable to the PACU Coordinator. When performing Unit Secretary duties, is responsible for the secretarial aspects of patient care and the environmental management of the work unit. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide reliable assistance to the members of the team including nurses, manager, and physicians. Demonstrates good customer service skills when interacting with patients, visitors, and co-workers. Helps ensure that the unit runs efficiently. When performing Acute Care Tech duties, he/she is involved in the implementation phase of the nursing process and is delegated tasks to achieve quality patient care. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide technical care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to collect data and relays appropriate data to nurse, status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.

Collect and document vital signs when appropriate.

Assist the professional nursing staff in preparing the preoperative patient.

Monitor care environment for fall and injury risk.

Demonstrate knowledge and application of sequential compression devices.

Demonstrate effective communicating skills.

Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

Perform reception functions of the unit.

Manages material and facility resources effectively.

Sets a positive example to all staff in daily activities.

Behaviors and interactions demonstrate a positive attitude, personal initiative and motivation to achieve the goals of the department.

Champions the development and growth of safety culture.

Demonstrates organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.

Participates in all competencies planned for the job role prior to deadlines.

Complies with the Surgical Services/ PACU policy.

Follows the policies in the Employee Handbook.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills:

High School Diploma/GED required.

Work Experience:

Previous hospital experience preferred
