Job Summary
The Production Supervisor is expected to direct and participate in all aspects of the food packaging processes as needed and comply with Open Hand’s food safety, quality, sanitation, and HACCP plan, as well as Open Hand employee manual. The supervisor is expected to work closely with other functions within the facility to execute plant-wide initiatives.

Duties/ Responsibilities
Leadership
Ensure all products meet quality standards by monitoring raw ingredients, in-process products, and packaging. Implement and enforce Open Hand quality management system.
Supervise and motivate production teams, conduct training, monitor performance, and enforce company policies and procedures.
Ensure all operations comply with food safety regulations, such as HACCP and GMP, and maintain a safe working environment for all team members.
Facilitates and leads team huddles to communicate successes, failures, and areas for improvement.
Foster a work environment of continuous improvement by providing input to improve production processes and quality.
Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Inspect and evaluate production equipment regularly
Understands the business need for packing Volunteers and ensures they have a good experience while also contributing to packing needs.
Verification and Documentation
Verifies, with Supervisor sign-off, all line control sheets are completed accurately, entirely, and as required throughout each meal run.
Monitors and ensures the accuracy of meal packing and verifying of meals. Maintain accurate production records and ensure proper documentation.
Input’s metric data into database as required; participates in making inferences from metric data to drive improvements.
Communicates with technical personnel and leadership effectively regarding quality and food safety issues. This includes verbal, email, Slack, and text communication.
Supervises and ensures accuracy of packed meals transferred into frozen storage locations (FGF)
Supervises the correct requisition and return process of all food items and packing materials used in the packing process.
Collaborates with the Distribution and Picking Team (internal customers) to provide all needed inventory documentation and information.
Sanitation and Food Safety
Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
Ensures sanitation tasks meet QA standards, and the sanitation log is signed and verified each shift.
Corrects GMP violations when they occur and serves as an example of proper GMPs.
Standard of Work
Assigns Pack Team to specific set-up duties so that when team arrives, team goes directly to work.
Communicates and approves employee work schedules and PTO requests; in collaboration with HR, documents and addresses employee issues concerning tardiness and unplanned absences.
Assists in the monitoring of labor hours and communicates labor needs to upper management.
Assists in creation of tools needed to monitor labor hours and control costs.
Always treats everyone with respect and dignity.
Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Ensure Preventative Maintenance plan for equipment is followed and verification check offs.
Required Skills/Abilities
Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English. Ability to write simple correspondence in English.
Ability to communicate with all staff and volunteers appropriately.
Basic computer skills (email, Microsoft, Excel spreadsheets, word processing) are necessary, and intermediate skills are often preferred.
Education/Experience
Must have High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and acceptable reading skills.
A bachelor's degree preferred or 2-year associate’s degree in a related field
Minimum of 1-5 years of supervisory experience, often with a background in food production or a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of food safety regulations (HACCP, GMP), quality management systems, and food processing are essential.
Physical Requirements
Employees must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and to stand for long periods of time. The job requires repetitive and continuous intensive physical labor.
