National Grid is hiring a Transmission Engineer - Flexible on location with hybrid working on offer
To assure the project design, delivery and recovery process for the civil engineering aspects of various project types. The Civil Engineering Transmission Engineer role will ensure that the business has optimal scope definition and solutions for each individual project. The role is committed to applying the highest standards of Safety, Quality, Sustainability and Resilience while minimising environmental impact and inefficiency in all design considerations.
What you'll do
Provide design assurance using a risk-based approach, confirming at each stage that projects can proceed to the next phase and ultimately to commercial service. Offer design, obsolescence, and commissioning advice as needed.
Serve as the Design Assurance Engineer for strategic and complex projects, delivering cross-technology leadership and coordination across multiple functions in accordance with National Grid procedural requirements.
Technically lead external contracts and manage contractor and stakeholder relationships, directing framework consultants to promote consistency and value engineering, while collaborating with wider National Grid teams as appropriate.
Coordinate with the NG Principal Designer Representative, as applicable, to provide detailed engineering support for civil aspects, ensuring cost-effective and appropriate option selection for project design and delivery. Address and resolve technical issues from both internal and external stakeholders.
Support the development of standardised solutions for asset interventions.
Provide technical support and collaborate with the ET Asset Lifecycle and Innovation teams, as well as Global Procurement specialists, for tendering and contract activities.
Author, develop, advise on, implement, and maintain Business Procedures and Technical Specifications, ensuring that lessons learned and best practices are incorporated as required.
Lead and coordinate technical investigations within the civil engineering field, progressing subsequent engineering investigations to completion.
Work seamlessly with Development and Delivery teams to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the Capital Programme, while adhering to National Grid governance requirements.
About you
Proven experience in civil engineering projects, with a strong understanding of security and procedural requirements.
Knowledgeable in the design, extension, and lifetime management of civil engineering assets.
Familiarity with National Grid civil engineering policies, procedures, and specifications is desirable.
Working knowledge of CDM Regulations and environmental legislation.
Competent in line with BP141 civil engineering design assurance activities.
Demonstrated examples of successful project delivery.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deliver persuasive presentations to multi-disciplinary teams and audiences.
Knowledge of negotiation and contract management, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Experienced in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally.
What you'll get
A competitive salary in the range of £60,000 to £70,000 dependent on experience
£3,000 p.a. market supplement (paid monthly)
Flexible/Hybrid working – opportunity to be based from offices or sites across England and Wales, travel to our Warwick office and other sites will be expected.
