Database Administration Specialist 3, Office of Database, PN 20064611

What You Will Do:

Primary Data Integration and BI Support: 40% of the role is dedicated to critical data processes, including performing data migrations and writing platform-specific code for these migrations. This work, which draws heavily on the Secondary Technology, SSIS, also involves monitoring and tuning the data warehousing process and providing support for overall business intelligence (BI) activity and performance.

Database Performance and Data Modeling: The specialist spends 20% of their time conducting technical operations such as performance tuning and configuration, tuning DBMS systems running on a single platform, and performing load testing and scalability analysis. They also handle data architecture tasks, including designing and maintaining various versions of data models, creating ERDs (entity relation diagrams), and conducting data normalization.

Strategic Development and Technology Research: A substantial portion of the role (35% of duties) focuses on strategic planning, researching product enhancements and capabilities, and staying current with emerging technologies. This involves developing database strategies to support business needs, defining standards, implementing best practices, and conducting proof of concept for new versions and patches.

Infrastructure Maintenance and Incident Resolution: Key maintenance duties include designing and implementing a disaster recovery plan, performing archives, backups, and restores (including restoring malicious deletions). The position is also responsible for resolving technical issues at the Tier II level and providing guidance to management and other technical specialists on critical IT issues .

-Or completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems; 42 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems; 36 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting.
