Purpose of this position
The purpose of this position is to prepare and provide food service to residents in a cost-effective, efficient manner and to safely meet resident needs in compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
Delegation of authority
Authority is delegated to the individual in this position to:
Prepare resident diets in accordance with diet orders and daily menus.
Assist the Food Service Supervisor to determine the amount and type of food necessary to prepare the daily menus.
Monitor use of food to eliminate waste.
Follow posted menus for food preparation.
Stock food in compliance with dietary policies and procedures.
This position reports to: Food Service Supervisor/Dietary Manager
The primary functions and responsibilities of this position are as follows:

Additional duties may be added as necessary to meet the needs of the facility.
1. Handle and prepare food in a sanitary manner.
2. Prepare food which is palatable and appetizing in appearance.
3. Follow oral and written directions.
4. Keep work area clean and sanitize work surfaces after food preparation.
5. Follow written menus and recipes.
6. Understand and be able to prepare therapeutic diets.
7. Be responsible for avoiding food waste.
8. Assume responsibility for meeting meal schedules.
9. Be responsible for care of food service equipment.
10. Work cooperatively with food service staff and other departments.
11. Attend in-service training programs for food service employees and as assigned.
12. Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor.
13. Perform all duties assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.
14. Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
15. Follow Resident Rights policies at all times.
16. Observe all facility policies and procedures.
17. Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
18. Assume accountability for all data contained in the employee handbook.
19. Report for work in neat, clean attire and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance.
20. Report for work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
21. Consistently work cooperatively with residents, residents' representatives, facility staff, physicians, consultants and ancillary service providers.
22. Inspect special diet trays to ensure that the correct diet is served to residents.
23. Ensure that menus are maintained and filed in accordance with established policies and procedures.
24. Agree not to disclose assigned user ID and password for accessing resident/facility information. Promptly report any known or suspected unauthorized access, use or disclosure of such information to supervisor.
25. Prepare and serve bedtime snacks.
26. Prepare and serve substitute foods to residents who refuse foods served.
27. Agree not to disclose resident's protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations to the Administrator.
28. Ensure that department computer workstations left unattended are properly logged off or the password protected screen saver activates within established facility policy guidelines.
29. Report suspected resident abuse immediately to the Administrator.
30. Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be. Report such occurrences on the shift in which they occur.
