As a guard based out of Newcastle Interchange you’ll work in team based environment to operate rail technology like our newly rolled out Mariyung fleet and diesel Hunter Cars. Our ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment, prioritising a seamless, positive experience for the millions of customers travelling by train across our network. With daily journeys to destinations such as Scone, Dungog, and Sydney no two days are the same.

In this role, you'll:

Join a paid, six-month intensive training program to become a qualified Train Guard.

Act as an ambassador for Sydney Trains, ensuring safe and smooth journeys for thousands of daily passengers.

Learn and perform key responsibilities including customer service, train dispatch, onboard safety, and public announcements.

Commit to a rotating roster that supports our 24/7 operations, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

About you

You’ll enjoy engaging with customers and be able to communicate clearly with people from all walks of life.

You can work independently, solve problems proactively, and maintain high standards.

A strong safety focus is essential! - Previous experience in a safety-focused workplace is highly regarded.

Ability to stay calm and resilient under pressure in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

You’re detail-oriented, adaptable to new technologies, and confident using computers and mobile touch screen devices.

Availability to commit to a rotating roster with varying start and finish times across a 24/7 timetable.

Ready to commit to a long-term career as a Train Guard and commit to our 6 month training program, starting in January 2026
