Our client is looking for a CAD Designer/Drafter to join their team. Our client is growing fast globally and looking for top talent to join their team. They are a leading global supplier of Abrasive Blasting and Painting Facilities to a range of different industries.
The CAD Designer/Drafter will be responsible for creating detailed technical drawings, models, and documentation used in the design, fabrication, and assembly of mechanical components and systems.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Associate degree, diploma, or certification in Drafting, Mechanical Design, or related technical discipline.
- 2+ years of experience in mechanical drafting or design support (preferred).
Proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software.
- Strong understanding of mechanical drafting standards, geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T), and technical drawing conventions.
- Familiarity with materials (metals, plastics, composites) and basic manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, fabrication, welding, etc.).
- Experience producing Bills of Materials (BOMs) and maintaining document control.
- Knowledge of applicable standards and codes (ASME, ANSI, ISO).
- Experience collaborating with engineers, designers, and production staff.
- Prior exposure to PLM systems or engineering document management systems (a plus).
- Technical Accuracy - Produces precise, error-free drawings and models that meet specifications.
- Attention to Detail - Identifies inconsistencies or errors in drawings and corrects them promptly.
- CAD Proficiency - Demonstrates advanced skills in 2D drafting and 3D modeling software.
- Design Interpretation - Accurately translates engineering sketches, notes, and verbal instructions into detailed designs.
- Manufacturing Awareness - Understands how designs impact manufacturability and assembly processes.
- Problem-Solving - Provides practical drafting solutions to design or production challenges.
- Collaboration - Works effectively with engineers, project managers, and shop personnel to achieve project goals.
- CAD Best Practices - Checks in drawings/models (e.g., PDM/PLM systems); demonstrates disciplined feature tree management and sound mating practices to ensure model integrity.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Prepare accurate 2D drawings and 3D models of mechanical parts, assemblies, and systems using CAD software.
- Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and notes to produce detailed designs.
- Revise and update existing drawings to reflect design changes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and manufacturing teams to ensure drawings are feasible for production.
- Apply knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and tolerances to ensure practicality of designs.
- Maintain organized drawing files, records, and documentation in accordance with company procedures.
- Perform basic design calculations as needed to support drafting activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., ASME, ANSI, ISO).
- Support prototype development and assist in resolving design-related issues during manufacturing.
