QUALIFICATIONS: Georgia Secondary Teaching certificate. Access to a personal computer and reliable internet
The Coastal Plains Career Specialist is responsible for furthering post-secondary and career initiatives with all students. Along with completing state required BRIDGE Law activities, Career Specialists must focus on helping students plan careers, college entrance, and military options.
Duties include:
Support new student orientation Connection Room
BRIDGE Law
Ensure that all students have an active My Career Plan through SLDS
Create and implement a system to ensure completion of all yearly grade level BRIDGE-required activities.
Deactivate withdrawn students from SLDS: Counselor Companion
Interact with students to help develop their career plan and complete the Career Planning Interview along with completion of the BRIDGE activities.
Submit 4 BRIDGE Law Checkpoints each year to track student completion

Grad Plan Requirements
Discuss and encourage students to follow the Grad Plan outlined for their path to graduation.
Career Planning Activities
BRIDGE Law activities should be completed on a weekly basis.
Career Fair each semester
Job Fair each semester.
Specific Career/Job Related Activities will be held monthly
(List of Activities and Optional Resources will be provided).
Events should be site wide. The topic is provided for you. You will choose one activity per month from the list below. August/September and November/December are combined. You should cover one topic monthly.

Plan and organize one Career Fair and one Job Fair PER SEMESER. These could be on campus or you could attend at local technical schools. This can be planned in conjunction with other Student Services Staff.

Build Partnerships with local business (Work closely with the WBL Teacher)
Dual Enrollment
Traditional: Student attends high school and participates in college courses to receive a high school diploma at graduation.
Accelerated Career Diploma: Student completes core classes at the high school campus and then attends classes at the college campus to earn a degree or certificate in fields such as welding, cosmetology, etc.
Students enrolled in Dual Enrollment: should be contacted by Student Services staff such as Mentors, Graduation Coaches, etc.
Assist Counselors in informing all students about Dual Enrollment opportunities each semester. Plan and conduct events each semester to inform/motivate students to consider Dual Enrollment.
Identify and refer students who would be good candidates for dual enrollment opportunities.
Coordinate college entrance testing with Counselors.
Ensure that students also attend Coastal Plains to complete required courses and tests.
Other
Complete the Career Planning Interview during BRIDGE Law events
Plan workplace field trips, job shadowing, career speakers, and career field trips.
Assist with Career Night.
Assist with a Financial Aid Workshop.
Assist with College Fair Night.
Assist with Parent Nights
Assist with College Field Trips.
Attend monthly Site Student Service Wellness
Plan Job/Military/College Signing Day Events
Perform all other duties as assigned by Site Directors
