The role
As a Senior Submarine Technical Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is a unique opportunity to be embedded within the design teams shaping the next generation of Royal Navy submarines, where your maintenance expertise will directly influence strategic engineering decisions and drive innovation in underwater defence.
Day-to-day, you’ll play a critical role in influencing the design of future submarines. Your insights will help optimise systems for maintainability, availability, and performance. Working closely with designers, engineers, and supply chain specialists, you’ll ensure that the Royal Navy’s underwater fleet remains efficient, reliable, and ready for mission success.
Supporting design teams and engaging subject matter experts for through-life queries
Collaborating across Integrated Product Support (IPS) elements to ensure efficient submarine development
Generating supportability evidence and identifying availability risks
Conducting initial evaluations to optimise submarine capability
Driving innovation and influencing strategic design decisions
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.
Essential experience of the Senior Submarine Technical Engineer
Submarine maintenance expertise, including production planning, commissioning, and system set-to-work
Deep understanding of nuclear fleet maintenance, product safety, and assurance
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Experience working across multi-disciplinary teams throughout the submarine lifecycle
Familiarity with industrial partner operations and integration
Qualifications for the Senior Submarine Technical Engineer
HND/Foundation Degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline, supplemented by relevant experience
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
