The role
As a Constructive Design Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is a rare opportunity to influence the design of in-service and future submarines, applying your expertise to projects that directly support the UK's defence capability and shape the future of naval engineering.
Day-to-day, you’ll apply your mechanical and structural design expertise to support combat system upgrades and platform engineering across Astute and Vanguard class submarines, with potential involvement in future submarine programmes. You’ll work in a growing team, using advanced design tools to deliver high-quality solutions that meet defence standards and contribute to national security.
Creating and developing 2D and 3D drawings and models for system integration
Designing installation methods for new submarine fits, ensuring manufacturability and compliance
Participating in onboard surveys and validation exercises
Supporting the production of technical documentation, including design and safety materials
Collaborating with MOD, ship staff, and installation contractors
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Constructive Design Engineer
Experience in a regulated constructive or mechanical engineering environment
Knowledge of welding and non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques
Proficiency in 2D and 3D AutoCAD software
Strong safety awareness and commitment to quality
Proven reliability and productivity in engineering delivery
Qualifications for the Constructive Design Engineer
ONC with appropriate apprenticeship or equivalent experience
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
