The City of St. Cloud is seeking a dedicated Code Compliance Officer to help maintain and improve the quality of life for our residents and businesses. This position works both in the office and out in the field, investigating and evaluating residential and commercial properties for code, zoning, and life safety violations.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
Prepares documentation for legal review; maintains a log of inspection and enforcement activity; enters case data into database.
Receives and reviews complaints on violations of environmental, nuisance, zoning, permitting, housing, and other code areas.
Makes inspections of vacant properties for compliance with codes and ordinances.
Conducts research into legal ownership; investigates complaints; makes reports on suspected ordinance violations.
Issues notices to those in violation of codes and ordinances.
Prepares cases for board meetings.
Presents violation cases before the Code Compliance Special Magistrate.
Attends various meetings and make presentations when necessary.
Enters work orders and routes to the appropriate department, communicates with requestor(s) when there are special circumstances.
Performs clerical duties including answering phones and preparing documents.
Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by one (1) year of code enforcement experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English).
Certification by the Florida Association of Code Enforcement preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Mathematics:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
