Job DescriptionJob Description

Metal fabrication plant looking for EXPERIENCED 1st Class Structural Steel Welder with the ability to weld various metal fabrications utilizing FCAW and GMAW welding equipment.

Key responsibilities:

Reading welding procedures and applying instructions while welding steel components in a shop fabrication facility.

Completing welds that meet AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.5 code requirements and subject to visual, magnetic particle, ultrasonic and x-ray examination.

Operate, set, change out consumables and maintain welding machine assigned for use during welding operations.

Position and align metal components using jigs, clamps and other tools to ensure proper fit before welding or bolting them together.

Tack weld assemblies together to temporarily secure the pieces in place before final welding.

Smooth out rough edges and remove imperfections on welded joints using grinders and similar equipment.

Utilize cranes, hoist, come-a-longs and other lifting equipment to move and position heavy metal parts.

Inspect completed assemblies for accuracy and conformance to specifications.

Required skills;

Blueprint reading, accurate interpretation and ability to complete all necessary processes to weld metal components together.

Proficient at using heating torches, welding equipment and other tools utilized in steel fabrication specifically welding.

Ability to lift and manipulate heavy metal pieces, work in awkward positions, climb and crawl.

Precisely aligning and fitting parts to ensure structural integrity.

Adherence to safety protocols at all times.

Work environment:

Primarily in a fabrication shop, often with exposure to noise and fumes from welding.
