Job Overview:
The Associate Manager within The Ohio State University’s Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK) supports the Grants Accounting Manager in overseeing grants accounting and compliance activities related to university-wide sponsored research. This role provides leadership within the unit, managing daily operations, supervising professional staff, and serving as a subject matter expert for compliance and financial management of sponsored projects.
This position is responsible for supervising and guiding professional staff within the grants accounting unit, addressing and resolving departmental issues, and closely monitoring departmental metrics with an emphasis on efficiency, accuracy, and compliance. Working in collaboration with the Grants Accounting Manager, the Associate Manager identifies and implements process improvements. To ensure strict compliance with federal, state, and private grant regulations, including Uniform Guidance and other relevant standards, the Associate Manager assists with audit preparation by gathering documentation and responding to inquiries. Additional responsibilities include overseeing compliance tasks such as reconciling sponsored general ledger accounts, monitoring payroll adjustments and cost transfer transactions, analyzing financial transactions across sponsored projects, and resolving any account balance discrepancies. The Associate Manager conducts detailed reviews of trial balances, addresses ongoing audit requests, and reviews financial reporting, producing analytical reports with recommendations or corrections. This role also contributes to preparing the annual Schedule of Expenditures on Federal Awards (SEFA) for ERIK-managed sponsored research.
The Associate Manager develops, tracks, and analyzes performance metrics, preparing regular reports on departmental performance, audit outcomes, and compliance status. In collaboration with the Grants Accounting Manager, they implement data-driven recommendations and best practices. Additionally, this role addresses financial discrepancies related to grants, provides training to staff on grant management and financial compliance, and ensures adherence to grant financial requirements and internal controls through ongoing guidance and support.
This position reports directly to the Grants Accounting Manager within ERIK, supporting effective financial oversight and regulatory compliance across The Ohio State University’s sponsored research portfolio.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
Five years of relevant experience.
Proficient in the use of excel spreadsheets and all standard office software.
Extensive experience with grants accounting at a large research institution or other large, complex organization.
Strong knowledge of Uniform Guidance, GAAP, and other relevant regulations and standards.
Experience in leading and managing a team or has demonstrated the ability to leading a team effectively.
Desired Qualifications:
8-12 years of relevant experience.
CPA certification.
Considerable experience with sponsored project accounting and sponsored project processes.
Knowledge of university and OSP policies, rules, regulations,
Strong verbal and written communication skills and customer service orientation.
Proven ability to remain professional with all levels of customers inside and outside the university.

Additional Information:
The pay range for this job profile is $95,300 - $124,650. The salary offer for this position will fall within this range based on the selected candidate's qualifications, internal equity, and the unit's available budget.

While hours may vary, the individual will be expected to be available during standard business hours (Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.).
