Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg day shift position requiring a compact RN license, strong med/surg skills, and prior travel experience.

Responsibilities

Work in a 45-bed Med/Surg unit within a hospital setting

General med/surg patient population including post-surgical, cardiac, respiratory, orthopedic, and infectious conditions

Day shift schedule with 12-hour shifts from 6:30 am to 7 pm

Required to work every third weekend and every other holiday

First to float within skillset, with potential to float between nearby campuses; 2-hour notice provided for cross-campus floating

Day shift nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4-5

Epic charting system in use; recent Epic experience required

Will be expected to float to nearby campuses as needed, with adequate notice provided

Unit is supported by a very experienced staff and may require precepting of students and new hires

Navy blue scrubs required; no competing health system or agency logos allowed

Three call-ins may result in termination

COVID-19 vaccination is not currently required but is subject to change

Local candidates within a 40-mile radius are not eligible for consideration

Must demonstrate resilience, adaptability, strong work ethic, and ability to manage change

Holiday coverage is required according to the unit schedule

Requirements

Active KY or compact RN license required

Current AHA certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS

Minimum two years of strong med/surg nursing experience

At least one previous travel assignment required

Recent experience with Epic EMR mandatory

Strong proficiency in PIV insertion, chest tube and indwelling drain management, CBI, drip management (heparin, cardizem), PEG/NG tube management, ostomy care, remote telemetry, blood product administration, NIHSS/dysphagia screening, and strong assessment skills
