What you’ll be doing:
The NA is expected to apply specialist Naval Architectural knowledge in order to undertake engineering activities delegated by the Project Lead Engineer or Naval Architect in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements. Depending on the specific project that is being supported, the individual will be expected to assure or carry out the Naval Architecture input to the assigned project such as:
· Conduct inclining experiments
· Conduct ship stability/ hydromechanic analysis
· Conduct structural design and analysis for various materials including metals and composites
· Conduct engineering design of modifications or upgrades
· Create or assure structural repair plans for metals or composites and support the periodical survey, repair and certification requirements of the Class including repair assurance activities and the collation/ creation of evidence and submissions for Naval Authority or Classification Society Certification.
· Take action and collate evidence to ensure Naval Authority Key Hazard Certification is not compromised. Including identifying, and challenging design change that may cause invalidation of any of the Naval Authority Key Hazard Certificates in the Naval Architecture domain (covering Structural Strength, Stability and WTI, Escape, Evacuation and Rescue (EER), Structural Fire Protection, Material Fire Safety)
· Understand the methods used for ship design configuration and apply it within their sphere of operations.
· Provide structural expertise to support the periodical survey, material state surveys, repair and certification requirements of the Class including repair assurance activities and the collation of evidence for Naval Authority Certification or Classification Society submissions
Your skills and experiences:
· Degree qualified, or equivalent, in naval architecture, marine technology or other relevant engineering field
· Able to consider the impact of design change of a system on wholeship performance or other systems
· Structural and Stability analysis with respect to ship design utilising software e.g. ANSYS Workbench, PARAMARINE and other CAD software such as AutaCad and Inventor
· DE&S safety management systems including an understanding of Naval Authority Certification
· Surface ship design standards and processes (IMO, NES, DefStan, Classification Rules)
· Naval vessel design including EER requirements, compartment layouts, spatial constraints, system segregation and survivability requirements

As an Engineer - Naval Architecture and Structures, you will be working in a key role within the Naval Architecture Hub team responsible for providing naval architecture capability across a broad spectrum of projects. You will be providing solutions in support of the Royal Navy surface fleet worldwide.
This role will provide you with the opportunity of working in an important and challenging role critical to our naval capability. You will have direct involvement with the surface fleet and real-life exposure to waterfront ship engineering.
